The Textured Interior

This week, we’re highlighting some of our interiors while offering a window into our design philosophy. I’m often asked, “What’s your design style?” and I understand how overwhelming the process can feel. Many designers walk clients step by step using common sense. I assume that foundation and instead guide clients to express their personal brand with confidence.

I’m meticulous with every finish and piece, making sure the relationship from room to room reflects the client’s persona. The principles of design are applied with intention and rigor. I hope this helps you feel bold, creative, and completely authentic in your design journey.

Start with a Strong Foundation
A room should feel stunning even when empty. Your ceilings, walls, floors, and lighting create the base atmosphere. Everything layered on top, including texture, tone, and furnishings, builds from that foundation.

Find Your Spark
Not sure where to start? Let inspiration guide you. One irresistible item, whether a light fixture, a piece of art, or a chair, can become your anchor. I keep an entire room of “saved” objects for this exact reason.

Design with Light
Lighting layers are essential. They define mood, support your palette, and shape how materials interact. Plan lighting early and check it often. Even the most beautiful furnishings fall flat under poor lighting.

Create Contrast
Make sure pieces speak to each other. A black sofa on black flooring with black walls doesn’t work. It erases itself. Every piece needs contrast to shine.

Mind the Scale
Proportion matters. Too often, I see rooms overwhelmed or underwhelmed by poorly scaled furnishings. Every piece must feel intentional, from your wallpaper pattern to your sofa silhouette.

Layer Like a Pro
Layering is a science. I use formulas such as 3, 5, 7, and 9 to guide how many lights, pillows, fabrics, and finishes live in a space. Trust the process. Your brain naturally craves this kind of balance.

Aim for Balance
I favor asymmetry, but whether you lean symmetrical or not, balance is non-negotiable. You should feel it when you walk into a space. If it doesn’t sing, adjust.

Don’t Skip Accessories
Accessories anchor the story. I invest in them as heavily as furniture. They’re often the bridge between mood and meaning. Splurge wisely and build texture.

Color with Intention
I love color, and I make sure my clients love it too. If you wear it, you’ll live well with it. Color isn’t just bold. It’s psychological, personal, and transformative.

Final Thought
Celebrate the collaboration with your designer. Let them lead. Trust the journey. And watch your personal brand come to life boldly, beautifully, and unapologetically.
