Serving Up a Tasty Commercial Design
A smartly designed kitchen makes clients hungry to buy
How do you design a test kitchen that transforms sampling into selling? You trust JAQUE.
- Specializing in food products in the sandwich, breakfast, snack and dessert categories, Plymouth, MN-based Select Foods served retail outlets, clubs, convenience stores and food service customers. When company leaders decided to build their first-ever test kitchen, there was one obvious choice to make it as appetizing as possible: JAQUE. Normally, executives and buyers coming to test Select’s products would have to drive 2.5 hours to the company’s production facility. The new test kitchen would be just a 30-minute drive from the Twin Cities airport, providing a far more convenient experience. JAQUE set out to make it a memorable and professional experience as well. With its winning combination of beauty and easy maintenance, JAQUE chose Centiva floors as the anchor of her design. For the cabinetry, she chose commercial-grade walnut, durable stainless steel and bright blue glass, thus infusing the company’s logo colors directly into the space.
- To give the kitchen a sleek and spotless look for potential buyers, JAQUE selected microbial countertops. With four under-mounted microwaves and a lazy Susan in Select’s signature blue, she set up the preparation station for maximum efficiency. Above the food prep table, she even added a special touch: overhanging parts of the ceiling in the same formation as Select’s Logo. Knowing that communication would be as (or more) important than food tasting to inspire sales, JAQUE designed a special conference lounge for activities like class studies, presentations and post-tasting discussions. She placed an even number of the same signature blue conference chairs evenly throughout the room, then completed the space with trendy sliding barn doors complemented by warm reds and oranges to make people feel comfortable, alert and ready to purchase. The result: a commercial test kitchen that serves up more sales with every slider.
