How do you course-correct a home that’s already under construction? You trust JAQUE.
- As a designer, being presented with a home that’s already under construction brings its own unique challenges. In this case, the builder and owner were going in one direction, then in walks JAQUE with a different vision to better capitalize on the home’s location. Luckily, JAQUE can be very persuasive … JAQUE’s vision involved preserving the home’s existing Modern Spanish Colonial architecture while opening up its 6,000 square feet of space. That started with eliminating the main level’s compartmentalized interiors, then grounding it with a wide oak plank floor stained in a medium gray tone. JAQUE transformed the grand room into a large space with two conversation areas, both with appealing views of the home’s courtyard, kitchen and golf course. She set the tone from the front door by covering the space’s two-story walls in a plaster finish and accented the fireplace wall with a statement piece of art. Large-scale furniture pieces and contrasting colors brought an intimacy to the space, making it ideal for both lounging and entertaining.
- Eliminating a wall between the home’s existing kitchen and adjoining dining room, JAQUE opened that entire space to the home’s pool and veranda. She transformed the kitchen into an entertainer’s dream, combining walnut and stainless steel with granite and glass to complement the home’s exterior. For the dining area, she included a John Strauss-designed glass sculpture and custom table and banquette—perfect for a casual morning coffee or dinner with family and friends. A custom headboard, fireplace and fabulous art complete this suite to to make it an amazing getaway. For the media room adjacent to the master suite, JAQUE used various shades of blue to contrast with the room’s golf course views and skyline. The space is the perfect balance for relaxing and entertaining with an elegant patterned carpet, cocktail bar, shuffleboard and large-screen TV for easy lingering. Finally, she rounded out the home with a detached guest house, complete with its own balcony and pool bath. By knocking down walls and opening this home’s different spaces to each other, JAQUE allowed the owners to enjoy double the natural light and feel their home’s spaces flow seamlessly into one another. The result: the perfect marriage of art and design, and a home that brightens every day.
