A Moxy with Even More Moxie

Designing a restaurant that perfectly complements Marriott’s “new luxury” hotel experience

How do you make sure that your groundbreaking hotel has a restaurant space that perfectly honors and complements its design and brand? You trust JAQUE.

  • Launched in Milan in September 2014, Marriott’s Moxy experiential brand is defined by its attitude. Continuing that tradition, the Moxy in downtown Minneapolis is an animated, vibrant and stylish hotel designed to give guests everything they want and nothing they don’t—bending the rules in the name of fun, comfort and style without the hefty price tags.
  • When Moxy and chef Justin Sutherland wanted to create a companion restaurant/bar/catering/room service experience that similarly challenged the status quo, they turned to JAQUE. The collaboration resulted in The Pearl and the Thief, an innovative restaurant space that tells a compelling story as guests move from the hotel lounge and check-in space to the dining area.
  • The Pearl and the Thief boasts an upscale hipster motif with playful light fixtures, concrete floors, a living wall and plenty of natural light. Drawing on the use of traditional, handmade materials that express a new luxury, JAQUE chose disciplined interiors that pay homage to both the chef and the menu. The result is a well-rounded design that meets all the hype—an inviting space that’s perfect for lunch with a business associate, or a nice dinner after a long day.
  • If “moxie” is defined as “force of character, determination, or nerve,” then The Pearl and the Thief perfectly fits the bill.
