Mr & Mrs Fish occupies two floors, each with a distinct atmosphere, yet connected through the same modern design language. The ground floor captures a festive, grand ambiance, ideal for celebrating special occasions, while the second floor offers a cozier, more intimate environment, thanks to subdued lighting and multiple puck lights that create a welcoming space for evening dining.
In designing this space, JAQUE and David Rockwell’s team sought to subtly convey the essence of the restaurant without being overt. The design’s nonintrusive hints of seafood and fish specialties are woven into every element, creating an atmosphere that hints at the restaurant’s culinary expertise without overwhelming guests.
A key element of the design was to provide a prominent yet inviting bar counter, where guests can enjoy a selection of rare wines. The bar’s glowing onyx accents add a vibrant, long-lasting touch to the space, creating an enduring design feature that stands out while remaining timeless.
The panoramic windows, which offer stunning views, were a challenge to design for coziness, especially on rainy nights when guests crave a warm, intimate environment. The lighting design, led by JAQUE, was critical in ensuring that the space would feel inviting regardless of the time of day. The balance of minimal lighting during the day and warm, ambient lighting in the evening ensures that every corner of the venue is bathed in just the right amount of light, contributing to the cozy yet refined atmosphere.
Throughout the restaurant, JAQUE‘s design concept beautifully blends refinement with warmth. Materials such as copper are used thoughtfully, adding noble, luxurious features that elevate the space without detracting from the cozy ambiance. This remote collaboration, where expertise in different design disciplines came together, led to the creation of a truly dynamic restaurant space—one that perfectly balances elegance with intimacy.
