World of Jaque

Jaque's Statement

There’s no such thing as an inanimate object.

I feel the energy in everything. A home has life. A room has a story. A bed has a personality. Everything is alive. Everything has a soul.

When you engage with a truly custom-designed piece, you sense more the longer and deeper you look. The shape. The texture. The character. You feel something. We know the importance of connection. We know what happens to a baby who is never touched—how it stunts growth, development and the ability to feel and express joy. Yet when you order a mass-produced chair, there’s a good chance that it has never been touched by human hands until the moment you pull it out of the box.

To me, custom design isn't old-fashioned; it’s modern and progressive.

If you truly care about the environment, you should want something to last, not get chucked into a landfill. It’s not about instant gratification. It’s about permanent gratification.

I design things to be seen, touched and loved for the rest of their lives. I create animate objects that people will never want to abandon, that are on a permanent journey, whose story never ends.

"We've pushed ourselves to the edge of this cold, technological, disposable world, and we’re starting to turn back."

We’ve pushed ourselves to the edge of this cold, technological, disposable world, and we’re starting to turn back. We’re rediscovering the vitality of design. We don’t want everything spat out of a 3D printer. We hunger and thirst to touch something other than a screen.

In the end, my design philosophy is simple. Nobody is expendable. Nothing is disposable. People are sacred. And so are the homes we live in, the spaces we enter, the objects we use, the furniture that supports us. It’s all alive. It all has dignity. And like us, it needs to touch and be touched.
